Once we buy a property, we immediately begin looking at ways to make it more eco-friendly. Some of our buildings are even LEED-certified.
Still, as much as we want to protect the earth, our efforts are only as good as your willingness to participate. To that end, we supply any and all means necessary to help you be kinder to the earth.
If you’re looking for some easy ways to conserve our natural resources, start by taking shorter showers, adjusting the thermostat when you’re away, and opening the windows whenever weather permits.
Here are a few of the ways we’re working to be as zero-waste, energy conscious and green clean as possible:
CFLs and/or LEDs in every apartment.
Recycling as much as our vendors allow
TRIPLE S CLEANING SYSTEMS
We use Triple S Cleaning Systems to clean all of our floors, carpet, door handles, glass—pretty much anything you come in contact with in your home. Triple S Cleaning Systems infuse ordinary tap water with 4,500 volts of electricity causing H2O molecules to separate into unstable atoms. When sprayed from a hose, the atoms reunite with other oxygen molecules, sweeping up dirt, mold, mildew, and odor in their wake. They leave no harmful residues behind (or any residue at all). They’re also completely non-toxic for you and your family and have no impact on their environment.
NO HARMFUL CLEANING PRODUCTS
Many conventional cleaning products are made from nonrenewable resources that are harmful to the planet. These toxin-leaden chemicals can also pose serious health risks to humans and pets. Whenever possible, we choose environmentally friendly products with non-toxic, zero residue ingredients. We also encourage our residents to take a closer look at the cleaning solutions you use in your homes, not only for your sake, but for the sake of your neighbors, future residents, and the planet.
RECYCLING: MORE BINS, MORE OFTEN
Along with doubling our recycling bins, we also empty them twice a week.
OMNIAIR SYSTEMS
As a rule, air fresheners aren’t the best choice. They emit volatile compounds that can cause both short- and long-term adverse health effects. We now use air fresheners that emit 0% volatile organic compounds!
PLANTS ON EVERY FLOOR
Sometimes the best air freshener is nature’s air freshener. If you’re not familiar with the pathos plant, you’ll find these turbo-charged, air scrubbing dynamos on every floor of your building.
RECYCLED TRASH BAGS
All of the bags in the lobbies, mailrooms, and laundry rooms are made from 30% post-consumer recycled content.
ANDERSEN ENVIRO PLUS RUGS
Our rugs are made from recycled plastic water bottles and the backing is made from post-consumer recycled tires.
CLUBHOUSE CHANGES
We have changed the toilet paper, soap, and paper towel dispensers into more environmentally sustainable options.
COMPOST IN OUR GARDENS
Instead of adding landfills, think twice about what might be good food for our garden soil.
DO compost: shredded paper, shredded cardboard, wood shavings, dead leaves, twigs, pine needles, peanut shells, fruit scraps, corn stalks, peanut shells, grass clippings, vegetable scraps, coffee grounds and dead houseplants.
DO NOT compost: Meat, fish, dairy products, grease, diseased plants, or pet droppings.
Our mission is to not only respond to, but also be proactive in making sure your home and the air around it is as healthy as possible. As always, if you think of a way we could be better serving the planet, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re always interested in learning new ways we could be a better friend to the earth.
